Wall Street Ended Lower Led By Banks

US stocks ended lower on Friday after J.P. Morgan Chase reported a loss at its retail bank.The 30-stock Dow Jones industrial average was down 0.94 percent,down 100.90 points to 10609.65. The broad Standard & Poor's 500 index was down 12.43 points, down 1.08 percent, to 1136.03.Nasdaq composite index down 28.75 points,was down 1.24 percent, to 2287.99.CBOE Volatility Index gained 2.16 percent to settle at 18.01.

Financial stocks led the decline with J.P. Morgan down 2.3 percent,Bank of America lost 3.3 percent to $16.26 and Wells Fargo down 3.1 percent.Intel the world's largest chipmaker, posted fourth-quarter results also failed to inspire investors with earnings and was down 3.2 percent.U.S. consumer prices Index gained 0.1 percent in December.

Crude oil fell $1.39 to settle at $78 a barrel on Friday.Crude oil prices are down over 5 percent this week.Dollar gained versus the euro and fell against yen.Gold for February delivery was down 1.05 percent down $12.50 to settle at $1,130.50 an ounce.
